At Cobleskill Regional Hospital we offer state-of-the-art radiology services more commonly found only in larger urban centers. The hospital has invested nearly $2 million in advanced medical imaging technology over the past six years, achieving a complete upgrade of our Medical Imaging Department.

Introducing a New 64-Slice, Low Dose CT Scanner

Cobleskill Regional Hospital’s new Lightspeed VCT CT scanner from GE Healthcare produces exquisitely detailed, three-dimensional pictures of the heart, brain, lungs, blood vessels and other organs that can be viewed from every angle. The new scanner is specially equipped to lower radiation exposure by 40 to 60 percent. It is the only CT scanner in Schoharie County. Purchase of the $865,880 scanner was made possible in part by a $346,500 federal appropriation secured by Congressman Paul Tonko and awarded through a U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration HCOF grant.

“This new scanner will provide a safer, more effective way to use medical imaging to find, diagnose and treat life-threatening illnesses like heart disease, cancer, and stroke,” explains James Peters, M.D., Radiologist-in-Chief for Bassett Healthcare Network. “Most important, we are especially excited about being able to reduce radiation exposure for our patients. With this new scanner, we are ensuring that our patients get the absolute minimum radiation dose necessary to provide a quality examination.”

The New CT Scanner:

  • Delivers high-quality pictures of the human body with the lowest possible radiation exposure.
  • Can quickly capture highly detailed, three-dimensional pictures of the heart while it is beating, the lungs while they are expanding and contracting, and the blood while it moves throughout the body.
  • Can lower radiation exposure by 40 to 60 percent over other CT scanners.
  • Shortens exam time due to its faster speed.
  • Can accommodate larger patients.

And That’s Not All –

We recently upgraded our MRI to a MAGNETOM Espree – the most spacious and powerful MRI on the market today. A mobile MRI is stationed at our hospital at least one day per week, giving Schoharie County residents access to a non-invasive diagnostic tool that helps doctors detect developing diseases earlier than ever before. Our 2-year-old densitometry (DEXA) scanner provides fast, painless accurate testing of a patient’s risk for osteoporosis (bone loss/thinning). Making this technological transformation complete, our radiologists, who are affiliated with Bassett Healthcare, have traded in their viewboxes for a new digital system that makes film a thing of the past and makes X-ray, MRI, and CT studies accessible much more quickly so that patients will get faster results.
