A Mobile Mammography and Cancer Education Service

The mobile mammography and cancer education/screening services of Bassett Healthcare's Regional Cancer Program are on the road and ready to roll!

Thanks to a grant from the New York State Department of Health and the Friends of Bassett, Bassett now operates a mobile unit -- a van -- which travels throughout Central New York to provide people with mammogram services, conveniently in many local communities.

The traveling screening services are available throughout Otsego, Oneida, Delaware, Chenango, Madison, Herkimer, Schoharie, Fulton, and Montgomery counties. Screenings will be available on a regular basis at Bassett health centers, as well as other community sites which can provide adequate space for the screening equipment and staff. Special stops will be made by arrangement with community groups, businesses and organizations interested in hosting a screening session. Groups interested in scheduling screening sessions in their communities should call toll-free 1-800-BASSETT or 607-547-4830. People who want to know when the van will be in their community should call the same number.

Bassett's Mobile Mammography Service

The mobile mammography unit is staffed by a certified mammography technician and a service coordinator. At certain sites, such as the Bassett health centers, local staff members may help the mobile unit staff in providing some of the education and screening services.

People who receive the education and screening services will be charged, just as if they received the service at a typical Bassett Healthcare site. For women who cannot afford to pay for these services, the Breast Health Partnership Program may cover the costs of the screenings. For more information about the Breast Health Partnership please contact your health provider or provider clinic. In the future, services may expand to include prostate and colorectal cancer screenings, depending upon community needs, interest and available facilities. If you have a suggestion about how Bassett's mobile service can be improved or expanded, we'd love to hear from you!
