About Us

The Bassett Healthcare Network is an integrated health care system that provides care and services to people living in an eight county region covering 5,600 square miles in upstate New York. The organization includes six corporately affiliated hospitals, as well as skilled nursing facilities, health centers and health partners in related fields.

Bassett Medical Center, the foundation of the network, is an acute care inpatient facility in Cooperstown, New York with missions of patient care, teaching and research. Providing a wide range of specialty care, the medical center offers postgraduate residency training programs in Medicine and Surgery and maintains a strong academic program through its affiliation with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, an affiliation recently highlighted by the establishment of a Columbia medical school campus at Bassett.

The Bassett Medical Group is comprised of a full-time, salaried staff numbering over 250 physicians and other doctorates and 150 allied health professionals in a multi-specialty group practice. The Bassett Medical Group provides primary and specialty care at the Bassett Clinic and staffs Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. Through the Bassett Regional Network, Bassett physicians and other health professionals provide preventive, primary, convenient and specialty outpatient care at 28 rural health clinics and 18 school-based health centers throughout an nine county region. Ambulatory patient visits for the system approach 700,000 annually.

The Bassett Research Institute located in Cooperstown and the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health conduct research in basic and clinical science, population and public health studies.

Acute inpatient care is provided at affiliated hospitals: O'Connor Hospital in Delhi, Cobleskill Regional Hospital, Little Falls Hospital, and A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

A fifth affiliate, Tri-Town Regional Hospital in Sidney, provides 24/7 emergency care as well as lab and radiology services. Skilled nursing care, adult day care and rehabilitation services are provided by Valley Health Services in Herkimer and the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta. Regional health partners include At Home Care, Inc., which meets the health needs of patients who receive care in their home, and First Community Care of Bassett which provides home care equipment and supplies. The Friends of Bassett is a separate 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization charged with securing, acknowledging and stewarding charitable gifts for the Bassett Healthcare Network.

Birthing Center Hours & Policies

While in labor
During her admission, the laboring mother may have three visitors. Other family members and friends will be asked to wait in the family lounge. The admitting nurse will give the laboring mother three "passes" for her to give out as she chooses.

If a cesarean section becomes necessary, the laboring mother may have one support person accompany her to the operating room. This is subject to approval by the Department of Anesthesia.

Postpartum
We happily welcome one primary support person to stay 24 hours a day with a new mother.

We welcome all other visitors between 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Quiet hours, which allows new families the chance to rest, will be between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

No visitors will be allowed into the Birthing Center, other than the primary support person, during this time.
