Leadership


Fox Hospital is a large complex organization with over 950 employees, an annual operating budget in excess of $80 million, and a medical staff consisting of more than 70 physicians.

To lead this enterprise, Fox has assembled a talented and dedicated team of leaders.

 

John R. Remillard

John R. Remillard has been President of A.O. Fox Hospital since 1988. A native of northern New York State, he earned his Bachelors degree in business administration from LeMoyne College in Syracuse and went on for his Masters degree in healthcare administration from Russell Sage in Troy. He is licensed as a nursing home administrator and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Mr. Remillard also serves on several professional organizations including the Healthcare Association of New York State, the Iroquois Healthcare Alliance, the Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company, the American Hospital Association Governing Council for Small or Rural Hospitals and the Healthcare Financial Managers Association. In addition, Mr. Remillard volunteers his time to community groups including St. Mary’s Church, Catskill Area Hospice, Rotary and the NAACP. In 2000, he received the Thurgood Marshall Unity Award from the Oneonta Chapter of the NAACP and in 2007 was the recipient of the Regents Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives.

In his limited free time, Mr. Remillard is a marathon runner who also enjoys hiking, skiing and working out.
 

Robbin Scobie, Vice President of Nursing

Robbin was educated at the Delaware Academy and SUNY Delhi before going on to Broome Community College and SUNY IT in Utica for her nursing degrees. She earned her Masters Degree in Health Services Administration from Sage Graduate School in Troy. Robbin has been with Fox since 1988, spending time in both the hospital and nursing home in various capacities. She became the Vice-President of Nursing in 2000.

Robbin is licensed as a nursing home administrator and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She also serves on the Board of Directors of At-Home Care and is Vice-President of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Board of Directors.
 

Gary M. Smith, Vice President of Professional and Long Term Care Services

Gary M. Smith has been a Vice President: Professional and Long Term Care Services at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home since 1986. A native of Rome, NY, his healthcare career began as a Respiratory Therapist following graduation from Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Gary attained a Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration from SUNY IT, Utica, NY. He earned his Master degree in Healthcare Administration from the New School for Social Research, NYC. He served as Chairman of the Board and currently is Vice Chairman of AT Home Care, a premiere home health care agency. Gary is an active member of the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aged. Locally, he is a member of St. Mary’s Church and enjoys working on Habitat for Humanity projects and serving at “Saturday’s Bread.”
In his free time, Gary enjoys numerous outside activities, highlighted by hockey, skiing, tennis and sailing. He enjoys them most when accompanied by his wife and two daughters.

 

Mark J. Wright, Vice President of Finance

Mark was actually born at Fox Hospital and spent his youth in the local area before heading off to Siena College for his degree in business administration. He began his career with Coopers and Lybrand, then became the Director of Finance for Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Peekskill, New York. In 1994, Mark moved to Elmira and became the Controller for St. Joseph's Hospital. He is a member of the New York State Society of CPA's and a member of AICPA and has served on the boards of Catholic Charities and At-Home Care.

Mark and his family are passionate about sports, playing in local leagues and following his favorite national team, the Miami Dolphins.

 

Keith Valk, Vice President of Human Resources

Keith Valk has a degree in Sociology from Drew University and has been affiliated with Fox Hospital for over 34 years in various capacities. He became the chief HR executive in 1989 and has participated in dozens of hospital teams and committees, from Patient Safety to Strategic Planning to the Golf Committee. In addition, Keith has set a strong example for community involvement, working with groups including the United Way, the YMCA and the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce. He also holds memberships in the American Society of Healthcare Human Resources Administrators and the Northeastern New York Society of Healthcare Human Resources Administrators.

Keith enjoys gardening, home remodeling and working with youth. He is also a proud and doting grandfather!
